Nailed it...

Well, today started like any other Monday... I woke up with my throat on fire and feeling like crap! YAY... not really.  And being that I wasn't feeling up to pair I decided to rest and relax today hoping that tomorrow I feel better.  In my relaxation mode, I was browsing my fav website Pinterest.  I came across a picture of a nail polish design, and figured I could give it a go.  Let's just say it didn't quite work out like I thought it would.

here is the inspiration I found on Pinterest.

These are all the supplies that I used to try to re-create the look
Colors in order of layers:
OPI's What's with the Cattitude?
Revlon Colorstay in Bold Sangria
OPI's Skip the Gift Wrap
OPI's Ogre-the-Top Blue
I started with OPI's What's with the Cattitude as the base.  I ended up doing two coats to make sure that it was a solid color to build on.  Afterward, I took the colors (in order of "darkness") to add.  I poured a couple of drops onto the aluminum foil so that the polish wouldn't dry to quickly.

Here how it looked with just the Bold Sangria swiped across:

Base: What's with the Cattitude?
Swiped with Bold Sangria

I gave a little time in between each color to allow the previous color time to dry.  Then preceded to do the same thing with the two following colors.

This is the end result.  Yes, I know it is messy looking, but for me it is easiest to get the nail polish off the skin once it is dry.  Peels right off.
This is the top coat I used.  THIS IS THE BEST TOP COAT I HAVE EVER USED!!! In love with it. Wouldn't buy any other kind.
The end result was nothing like the picture I found on Pinterest.  Maybe I did it wrong, but I was kinda disappointed with how it turned out.  Oh, well maybe next time or with less colors.

<3  Good Luck! I would love to see pictures if you try this!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

HAPPY 2013!!

It's amazing that the older I get, the faster the years seem to go by!  2012 was a CRAZY hectic year for the hubby and I! We moved all over the state of FL for work but we are now finally settled in one place (and I hope it stays that way for a little bit longer!)

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas/Holiday season and was able to spend it with the ones you love!    Chris and I were able to go back home for a few days and spend Christmas with my family! I think this was the least amount of drama I've ever experienced, so that was a MAJOR plus! =]

I got AMAZING gifts.  My favorite being my new camera!!

This is the Nikon J1 with the 10-30mm lens

I am completely in love with this camera!! It takes AMAZING pictures in low light.  Example, the hubby and I went to the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day to watch FSU play! We didn't start tailgating until about 5ish.  Here in FL, especially during Daylight savings, it begins to get dark around that time.  I didn't have to start using the flash with this camera until about 6:45!  The hubby and I are planning on getting new lens for this camera as time goes on. =]  I loved all the gifts I got this year, but this one just happened to be the one I was the most excited about! =]

It is also the time when everyone tries to make some New Years resolutions.  Now, I'm the type to ALWAYS make a resolution that I NEVER end up doing, so this year my first resolution is to STICK to my New Years resolution.  I always try to make them reasonable.

Here they are:

1. At least once a week, cook something we haven't tried yet.  I don't think we will be able to have a set day for the new recipe night, but just as long as it is once a week!
2.  Try to have a one night a week with no computer and cell phone.  I feel our lives (especially ours since Chris works in electronic's) always revolve around cell phone's and computers.  So, I would LOVE it if just for one night we can ignore our phones and computers and focus on spending time with each other!
3. Drink more water!!
4. Find exercises that don't bore me!  I seem to get really bored when I work out if I do the same thing over and over, whether it be a video or me just doing some stuff.  So, I need to find something that works, yet doesn't bore me.
5. And lastly, get more organized.  I have been looking on Pinterest for some organization tips and tricks for the Novak household.  I can share what works for us as I start setting some things in motion! =]

Hope everyone had a safe and Happy New Years!!
Also, I would love to hear your resolutions! So I hope you share!

Craft project!!

So, I saw this fabric wreath on Pinterest and KNEW I wanted to make this for myself, in a Halloween theme.  So, I dragged the  hubby along to JoAnn's to find some fabric to make this DIY wreath.  Here's what I got :

  • 1/2 yard of FOUR different fabrics (or however much you choose) for a total of 2 yards
  • 18" wreath ( we have a large door)
  • pair of fabric scissors
  • Wood letter to spell BOO
  • Frankenstein green pain

So, I measured out the fabric into about 1 inch X 6 inch stripes and tied them around the wire wreath.  Now, as I got towards the end of crafting my wreath, I noticed I didn't have enough fabric to finish. =/ FAIL on my part.  So, one afternoon my WONDERFUL hubby made a trip BACK to JoAnn's and came home with 2 yards of EACH fabric... so I have some extra. =D

Now, this project was pretty easy to do.  But I'm not going to lie... cutting out and tying those little strips was a pain in the butt. Pulling on the fabric totally gave me two blisters on my middle fingers (one on each hand).  But on the pulse side, this is a craft you can do while watching t.v./movie/NETFLIX (I've watched almost every season of Law and Order: SVU, but not all while I was working on this, it doesn't take that long!)
Supplies I got from JoAnn's Fabric
Wreath with two rows finished
Wreath finished (without letters on)

Now I have a craft to make for Christmas presents with all the extra fabric! =]  The possibilities with this fabric wreath is AWESOME! You can make one for any occasion.  I'm honestly thinking about selling these little gems. =]  I saw online wreath like this sell for $70+ dollars.  I'd probably sell them in the range of $35 to $50, depending on the size and type.

Holy Crap. It's SEPTEMBER!

I can't believe how fast 2012 is going.  It's already SEPTEMBER.  FALL IS COMING!! =D  I LOVE Fall.  Fall means football, scarves, boots, chili, decorations... eeeee I'm so excited.

To me, September is the start of my "holiday" season.  I have SEVERAL birthdays between here and Christmas (including my own) and now that we live away from our family there is going to have to be some planning involved this year so the hubby and I will be able to see everyone! I've even started planning out my handmade gifts for everyone this Christmas.  I tend to procrastinate, so the sooner I plan stuff out, the more likely I am to ACTUALLY do them.

I also am a firm believer in holiday decorations.  The earlier the better.  I mean what's the point of all your work if you only get to enjoy it for two weeks before you have to pack it all up and put it away.  I usually decorate for Halloween in the 3rd week of September and my Christmas decorations go up in early November.

Oh, and Happy Labor Day!

I love NYX cosmetics.  I would consider them to be "drug store" even though I can only find them at Ulta (or their website).  They are EXTREMELY well priced and they are cruelty free.  They have a TON of products to choose from.  I was just in the market for blushes and lip glosses.

Puppies!!

So the hubby and I have been debating about whether or not we should get a puppy. I've never had dog (rather traumatic for a child, I know), but Chris has. We have two cats now, Hera and Abu.

This is Hera... She's a Diva.

This is Abu... He's a snuggler.

Anyways, while driving around we came across a puppy palace. OMG. There was so much cuteness I didn't know what to do with myself.

 This is a Shiba Inu.

This is a Puggle (Pug/beagle mixed).

I'm hoping I can convince him to get me a puppy for Christmas or my Birthday!! You know, wrapped in a bow! =]

Isaac is coming...

So, Hurricane/Tropical Storm Isaac is on it's way to Florida.  This storm totally ruined my weekend. =/ It is slightly annoying.  I was supposed to get my hair cut.  My hair is in some desperate need of attention. Oh, well, maybe next weekend.

Anyways, the hubby and I went to Target to get some supplies JUST in case we lose power or get flooded or something bad happens... Our supplies included water, cat food, and a bag of the red starburst, you know, the essentials. =] Oh, well we also got some candles.  So, I think we are pretty prepared for this MASSIVE storm that seems to be heading our way.  <<hinting at the sarcasm>>

On our way to our Target adventure, the hubby realized that his car was on E.  And since Isaac is on his way, most of the gas stations were our of gas.  It was a tense ten minutes before we found a gas station that actually had gas.

That was our excited day!
