Book Review: Soul Deep by Pamela Clare

Book Description

Rancher Jack West knows what it means to love a woman with all his heart and to lose her far too soon. A widower for seven long years, he thinks love and romance are a thing of the past, nothing more than cherished memories. He devotes himself to his grown son and his family, the horses they raise, and the land that has been theirs for three generations. He doesn’t know that life has a surprise in store for him in the form of Janet Killeen, the lovely FBI agent he threw off his land last winter.

The bullet that left Janet Killeen seriously wounded also tore a hole through her life. All she wants is a little peace and quiet in the mountains, a chance to feel like herself again. That chance comes to an abrupt end when she goes off the road in a snowstorm and winds up stranded alone in a ditch. The last person on earth she wants to see is that arrogant jerk Jack West, no matter how handsome he is. But from the moment Jack finds her and offers her his hand, she realizes there’s far more to this gruff cowboy than she had imagined.

But trouble is brewing at Cimarron Ranch. A deranged man with an inscrutable motive is moving in for the kill, threatening to end Jack and Janet’s romance before they can claim a love that is … Soul Deep.

I first met Jack West in Skin Deep (Book 5.5) and Janet Killeen in Striking Distance (Book 6).

I usually love Pamela Clare's I-Team series, but this one just didn't do it for me.  I found Jack and Janet's story somewhat slow and predictable to me, even with this being a novella.  I figured out the "bad guy" fairly quickly and the romantic aspect was just as predictable.

I really don't have much more to say about this story than that.  It was short, sweet, and predictable.

Book Review: Wicked Fall by Sawyer Bennett

Book Description:

Never in your wildest dreams could you begin to imagine all the filthy and depraved things that go on inside The Wicked Horse. Step inside and Woolf Jennings will make every one of your dirty fantasies come true.

He’s covered in a facade of deception. An enticing blend of multi-millionaire and hot-as-hell Wyoming rancher, those that think they know Woolf Jennings admire his abilities to preside as CEO of his family’s cattle and oil empire. But only a privileged few truly understand what fuels the glitter of depravity in those gorgeous blue eyes. Only a few know he’s opened up a sinfully erotic and private sex club named The Wicked Horse right at the base of the beautiful Teton Mountain range.

Sweet Callie Hayes has returned home to Wyoming and is looking forward to starting her life over again. After a night of impetuosity, she’s managed to put herself right in Woolf’s line of sight… the man who she foolishly offered up her virginity to years ago and was flatly turned down.

Now Woolf is seeing that Callie is all grown up and has a kinky side to her that leaves him as confused as it does turned on. Worse yet, both Callie’s dirty desires and sweet heart are getting under his skin, and making Woolf question everything he’s ever believed about himself.

AVAILABLE: July 28, 2015

All I can say is... DAMN.  If you are looking a sexy read then Wicked Fall is for you.

Callie grew up with a crush on Woolf Jennings.  After the death of her brother, and Woolf's best friend, Callie got a little tipsy at a party and ran into Woolf.  When Woolf found out Callie was still a virgin, he walked away, but not without the thoughts of "the one that got away".

Fast foward 11 years later,  Woolf has recently open The Wicked Horse, a night club with an exclusive, membership-only sexual fantasy clud, The Silo.  Callie has recently come back home after she walked in on her fiancĂ© with another woman.  Trying to find herself, she goes to The Wicked Horse and enters a wet t-shirt contest where she catches the eye of Woolf, who drags her out.

Woolf is instantly conflicted with his feelings for Callie.  Oh, he wants her bad, but he feels that he can't give her what she wants and deserves.  But what Woolf doesn't understand is that Callie is on a mission to find herself again, and she believes Woolf is the man to help her do just that.

Book Review: The Heat of the Moment by Katie Rose

Book Description:

Physical therapist Jessica Hart has learned her lesson: Never date professional athletes. She's been down that road, and barely recovered after the relationship crashed and burned. Then Jessica meets Gavin King. An All-Star slugger with chiseled good looks, Gavin was traded to the Sonics because he hurt his knee sliding into second, and now his future is in her hands. Gavin's no bad boy—but he's tempting enough to make Jessica think twice about all her rules.

Gavin is trying to find a comfortable routine. If he wants his old life back, he must take it easy, stay out of the limelight, and keep his distance from gorgeous redheaded physical therapists. The thing is, Gavin isn't the kind of guy to sit on his ass and let other people pull his weight. And when he sees something he wants, he can't help but fight for it, even if it means risking everything, even if it only lasts a single moment: like one kiss from Jessica.

AVAILABLE: September 22, 2015

**I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.**

This book is a great, quick sweet read.  To me, there was nothing rushed or forced between Jessica and Gavin.

Slugger Gavin King was traded from the Dodgers to the New Jersey Sonics because of a knee injury.  Once there, his swimsuit model girlfriend breaks up with him.

Jessica Hart, the Sonic's team physical therapist, dated another ballplayer that cheated on her (and thought it was okay because he was a "ballplayer" and it went with the territory).  So, she is a little reserved when it comes to her attraction to Gavin.  I thought Gavin was really sweet and understanding when it came to Jessica and her reservations about his profession.

I finished this book in about 5 hours.

Book Review: Beware of Me by Cynthia Eden

Book Description:

He knew Carly deserved far better than him, and he wanted her to have a perfect life, a life that didn’t involve paying for Ethan’s sins.

But Ethan isn’t going to let Carly be threatened. He will move heaven and hell to protect her. He won’t lose Carly, not again, and for those foolish enough to try and take her from him…they are about to see just how deadly Ethan truly can be.

Author's Note: BEWARE OF ME is a complete, stand-alone story. All of the books in the Dark Obsession series are stand-alone titles.

NEED ME - Book 3
BEWARE OF ME - Book 4

AVAILABLE: July 28, 2015

**I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review**

I was hoping in Ethan's story you would find out a little more about his background.  But to me, I still have as many questions about Ethan and his background as I did before I read Beware of Me.

The story was good and fast-paced, definitely a one day read.

Book Review: Crashed by Sherilee Gray

Book Description

She swore never to trust him again...
Fiery mechanic Alexandra Franco should have known better. Years ago, her best friends' older brother took her virginity and broke her heart-or rather, doused it with gasoline, lit a match, and then walked away. And Alex definitely should not have indulged in another hot night with him after the fact. He's not the same boy she fell for, and she sure as hell doesn't want anything to do with the wealthy, ruthless man he's become.
Walking away from Alex was the biggest mistake of Deacon West's life. She belongs with him, and if getting her back means playing dirty, so be it. If she'll grant him a three-month, no-strings affair, he won't sell the building Alex and his sisters use for their auto repair business. Hell, he'll even sign it over to them. But will Alex ever entrust her heart to him again, or are they destined to crash and burn?

Deacon West needs to prove to Alexandra (Alex) Franco that she can open up and trust him again.  However, to get Alex to give him any time of day, he plans to "blackmail" her into giving him a no-strings-attached three month affair in exchange for not selling the building that Alex and his two sisters run a auto repair shop.

However, rather than Alex's trust issues driving a wedge between them, Deacon's trust and jealously issues play a prominent role in driving a wedge between these two (along with his ex-wife).

Book Review: The Murderer's Daughter by Jonathan Kellerman

Book Description

A brilliant, deeply dedicated psychologist, Grace Blades has a gift for treating troubled souls and tormented psyches—perhaps because she bears her own invisible scars: Only five years old when she witnessed her parents' death in a bloody murder-suicide, Grace took refuge in her fierce intellect and found comfort in the loving couple who adopted her. But even as an adult with an accomplished professional life, Grace still has a dark, secret side. When her two worlds shockingly converge, Grace's harrowing past returns with a vengeance.

Both Grace and her newest patient are stunned when they recognize each other from a recent encounter. Haunted by his bleak past, mild-mannered Andrew Toner is desperate for Grace's renowned therapeutic expertise and more than willing to ignore their connection. And while Grace is tempted to explore his case, which seems to eerily echo her grim early years, she refuses—a decision she regrets when a homicide detective appears on her doorstep.

An evil she thought she'd outrun has reared its head again, but Grace fears that a police inquiry will expose her double life. Launching her own personal investigation leads her to a murderously manipulative foe, one whose warped craving for power forces Grace back into the chaos and madness she'd long ago fled.

AVAILABLE: August 18, 2015

**I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.**

I had a hard time with this book.  I enjoyed the "flashbacks" of Grace growing up than I did of the present time in this book.  I could not connect with Grace as an adult on any level.  She was just so cold and unfeeling to me it was a huge turn off.  I had nothing to root for.  As for her "double life", it was no big surprise or shocker that she would have sex with strange men.  There seemed to be little actual dialog in this book, with most of it being Grace's thoughts or actions, over and over again.  Got somewhat tedious...

Also, the "mystery" behind her new client, wasn't that mysterious to me...

Book Review: Starting Over by Stacy Finz

Book Description

The mountain town of Nugget, California, may be tiny, but with its breathtaking scenery, fresh air, and lovable locals, it has everything. Not to mention it's the perfect setting for firsts—and seconds—of all kinds…

On the day of her glitzy New York City wedding, society girl Samantha Dunsbury ditches her Wall Street groom, and hops in her convertible. Her only plan is to head west. But when a pit stop lands her at a lovely Victorian inn in Nugget, she doesn't want to leave. And when the innkeeper needs someone to fill in, Sam is thrilled to take the job—her first! For once, she's going to do what makes her happy. She just has to figure out what happy looks like. She never expects it to look like her surly new boss…

The last thing Nate Breyer needs is a debutante dilettante mucking up his business. How his sister—and co-owner—could've hired Sam is beyond him. Nate's known women like Sam before—he was engaged to one once. With no options, he'll just have to keep his eye on her while also keeping his distance. But to his surprise it turns out Sam's got a knack for the job, and for putting folks at ease—including Nate. As business—and pleasure—heat up their relationship, Nate finds himself ready to do anything to persuade the runaway-bride to stay permanently gone…

AVAILABLE: August 18, 2015

**I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.**

The book starts off about 4 months after Samantha Dunsbury leaves her glitzy wedding in her rear view mirror.  She ended up in Nugget, California, and the Lumber Baron, a B&B owned by Nate Breyer and his sister Maddy.

I didn't particularly like Nick in the beginning of the book.  He was way to judgmental of Samantha, just because she has a similar background of his ex-fiance (extremely wealthy families).  Samantha never showed herself to be flighty or untrustworthy in her work for the Lumber Baron, yet every chance Nate gets he questions her longevity (and skill) as the event planner for him.

I really liked Samantha.  She left her easy life in New York to find herself.  She is completely dedicated to her job as the event planner for the B&B and partnering with other local businesses.

Once Nate gets over his bitterness of being left the day before HIS wedding, he is actually a nice guy and I really liked him and Samantha together.

Book Review: Second Chance Summer (Cedar Ridge Book 1) by Jill Shalvis

Book Description
Cedar Ridge, Colorado, is famous for crisp mountain air, and pine-scented breezes.  And it's the last place Lily Danville wants to be.  But she needs a job, and there's an opening at the hottest resort in her hometown.  What has her concerned is the other hot property in Cedar Ridge: Aiden Kincaid - firefighter, rescue worker, and heartbreaker.  She never could resist that devasting smile...
The Kincaid brothers are as rough and rugged as the Rocky Mountains they call home.  Aiden has always done things his own way, by his own rules.  And never has he regretted anything more than letting Lily walk out of his life ten years ago.  If anyone has ever been in need of rescuing, she has.  What she needs more than anything are long walks, slow dances, and sizzling kisses.  But that can only happen if he can get her to give Cedar Ridge - and this bad boy - a second chance...

AVAILABLE: June 30, 2015

I LOVE Jill Shalvis.  She is an auto-buy for me whenever I see a new book coming out.  Second Chance Summer is the first book in her NEW Ceder Ridge Series and it doesn't disappoint.

The first book focuses on Aidan Kincaid and Lily Danville.  Aidan had been Lily's teenage crush and right before tragedy struck Lily's family, they had started to explore their mutual feelings for one another.  Lily's sister and father died in the same week and it was just to much for a young Lily to take.  Lily has a serious case of survival's guilt and feels that the death of half her family is all her fault.  Aiden was devastated when Lily left and never looked back.

Fast forward ten years, Lily is back in Cedar Ridge, even though it is the LAST place she wanted to end up.  She left with to many terrible memories, but she is desperate for a job after she was fired from her salon management position in San Diego and and her boss/boyfriend blacklisted her to save his own butt.  Lily's character grows throughout the book as she learns to let go of the guilt of losing her sister and father.

The Kincaid's siblings are my kind of family.  They are completely loyal to each other, but tease and humiliate each other any chance they get.  The other Kincaid's will books in Jill's new Cedar Ridge series.
