Louise "Lou" Sparks is new to the Rockies having moved from the east coast about seven months prior to escape her controlling parents and start a life that is her own.  She spends her days working as a barista and on the Field County Ice Rescue Team whenever an emergency emerges.  During a routine ice training exercise, Lou ends up discovering a headless body in the frozen water.  Lou gets pretty freaked out and becomes determined to discover the who's, what's, where's, when's, and why's behind the dead man.
Callum Cook is Lou's boss with the Ice Rescue Team.  He is gruff, intense and pretty much no-nonsense.  Basically the EXACT opposite of Lou's personality.  Maybe that is why he seems so drawn to her.  Lou seems to attract trouble where ever she goes.  First she discovers a headless body and soon after her tires are getting slashed in a parking lot.  She needs a keeper and Callum seems to volunteer himself for the job.
The reason that this book is only getting a 3 rating from me is that I found the romance portion of this book to be a little lacking.  It just seemed to happen in one conversation between Callum and Lou.  Maybe it was part of Callum's stoic personality, but I wish there was more warmth between him and Lou.
