Shane Jones has suffered a lot of grief in the last year.  When he lost his close friend to a freak accident, he turned to Krista Connor.  Shane refused to take their "relationship" outside the bedroom in order to protect her from the tabloids.  And when Krista gets tired their "relationship", she leaves.  And Shane lets her walk away.
When Shane's brother dies of an overdose, Shane, once again, wants to turn to the one person that was there for him before: Krista.  He wants her in his life for the long haul and he is determined to show her what she means to him (before and now).
Krista left Shane and her life in LA because her life was a mess.  She wanted more than a "friends-with-benefits" relationship with Shane, but he didn't seem to want it.  Her job was uber-stressful and causing her additional health problems.  And her family life was weighing her down with her brother in and out of rehab.  So she packed up her life and moved up to Portland.   She is FINALLY getting her life and health back in order when Shane shows back up in her life.
But choices were made that can hurt them both.  Will they be able to actually communicate and break through their walls to build a REAL relationship?
