Icing by Kelly Jamieson

Book Description

Duncan Armstrong may be an NHL star, but he's a country boy at heart. His ultimate fantasy is going home with the Stanley Cup, not a gold-digging airhead who aspires to be a trophy wife and nothing more. Newly single and hoping to enjoy a night out with his teammates, he ends up hitting it off with a down-to-earth waitress who's a complete breath of fresh air—until Duncan learns that she's a part-time model. He tries to forget about her, but their sizzling chemistry has him coming back for more.

Amber is working hard to put herself through school, and has zero interest in dating a professional athlete. She's seen firsthand how fame and fortune can mess with their heads—her father's brilliant football career ended in a firestorm of addiction and infidelity. So Duncan's attentions immediately have her on the defensive. Still, there's something different about him. And once she stops trying to freeze him out, irresistible temptation turns into all-consuming passion.

Icing is the second (full-length) book in Kelly Jamieson's Aces Hockey series.  And my favorite so far!  Each book can be read as a standalone.  This story kept my attention for the length of the book.  I thought the characters in Icing were likable, fun to get to know, and relatable in today's world.

Duncan Armstrong is tired of all the "fakeness" that comes with fame and money.  He is tired of feeling used for his celebrity status and bank account.  After being burned by his lastest model girlfriend, Duncan is over woman (for now).  He just wants to find someone that is low-key and doesn't want the spotlight.  Going out with his friends is a perfect way to take his mind of his woman problems.  But attraction and connections can hit you when you least expect it.  While out with his teammates, Duncan meets a down-to-earth waitress that makes him question his "no-woman" policy.

Amber Johnson just wants to finish school.  She is working two jobs to pay for school and send money (when she can) to her mother.  She has zero interest in fame and getting involved with a professional athlete.  Amber knows first hand what that kind of fame and money can do to someone's life.  But there is something different about Duncan.  And she can only resist the sexy hockey star for so long before giving in.

Icing is my favorite of the Aces Hockey books so far.  I loved the how the characters worked through their relationship issues together and didn't just cut each other off.  I am definitely looking forward to more of the Aces Hockey men and the woman that make them weak in the knees.
